Rising Giants was created in 2021 by Max Thornton and Dominic Kalousek after realizing there were limited outlets for gaining insight into the startup and investment ecosystem in the frontier markets of Southeast Asia.
Rising Giants serves as an upbeat medium for entrepreneurs and investors to share their experience working and living in some of the most dynamic and positively evolving countries in Southeast Asia.
Our mission is to talk to entrepreneurs and investors to help understand what it takes to have bold ideas and build the business disruptors of tomorrow, in the most challenging, but highest potential markets of the region.
We sit down and learn from inspirational individuals understanding their journey to being a 'Rising Giant', their current hustle, perspectives on their ecosystem as well as key advice for aspiring Rising Giants.

Max Thornton
Proactive, passionate and positive. Max has spent his career exploring areas of the investment universe that are being overlooked and neglected by the mainstream; frontier markets, impact investing and DeFi. Having lived and worked in the USA, Europe, the Gulf, East Africa, China and Southeast Asia. Max is currently a Senior Associate at OBOR Capital: an 'operator' investment firm that takes a generational and sustainable view on capital appreciation in the breakthrough market of SEA: Cambodia. Max is excited for the potential of Rising Giants to carve out a platform for the next generation of globally inspired investors and entrepreneurs.

Dominic Kalousek
From Charlotte, North Carolina (USA) Dominic has a deep passion for supporting mission-driven startups in Southeast Asia grow and scale. Falling in love with the region after a post-graduation backpacking trip, Dominic returned to Cambodia after working for Bank of America for 3 years to join an Impact Investing Venture Capital Fund as an Investment Analyst. He now is now the Lead Finance Consultant at Sevea, a top impact driven consulting company located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. His goal is to make an impact by developing frontier markets through forging conversations with founders and investors who are building the business disruptors of tomorrow.
